Blindfold Photo Workshop is an extension of Blind With Camera using photography to reverse the traditional roles of the sighted and the blind; sighted people are put in a positioned that makes them dependant on the blind for guidance to take pictures. This new relationship empowers the blind, boosts their self-esteem, developing their emotional, intellectual and creative potential, bring them dignity and income opportunity, and sighted participants learning a whole new way of perceiving and communicating.

Pictures coming out of the blindfold photo workshop are exhibited (multi sensory accessible format) along pictures taken by trained blind photographers under Blind With Camera program, making the audience to rethink their assumptions and expectations from both blind and sighted people regarding what each is capable of accomplishing.

The workshop helps is breaking down the psychological barriers that prevent blind and visually impaired people from achieving integration into society – inclusion into the social, educational and working environments. WORLD SIGHT DAY at Sankara Eye Hospital Bangalore

The WORLD SIGHT DAY on 14th October 2010 was celebrated by conducting photography workshop with totally or low vision children at the Sankara Eye Hospital Bangalore. The event was part of Nanna Kannu – eye care programme for children supported by the Sight Savers International. Seventy six visually impaired children of age between 13 – 18 years were trained in photography during the workshop sessions. In total over thousand pictures were clicked under four themes – “In Touch With Green” (garden at the hospital), “Painting With Light” (traffic light at night), ”Inside Out” (inside the hospital building) and “For Better Sight” (objects used for eye testing).

Blind Photographers from Goa

A group of twenty six visually impaired from Goa participated in photographic workshop. They were of age between 12 to 45 years with visual impairement ranging from born blind, late blind and low vision. Here are pictures taken by them during the indoor and outdoor workshop sessions.

Kanchan Pamnani is a solicitor who specializes in civil and corporate matters. The interest in photography was evident when she bought her first camera while still in school however the interest had to lie in abeyance during the period of some vision, low vision and no vision.
